Huang met with Ren Hongbin, head of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and expressed hope for continued cooperation with China, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

His visit follows a U.S. ban on shipments of Nvidia’s H20 datacentre GPUs to China, the only AI chip the company is currently allowed to sell legally in the country.

Vice Premier He Lifeng welcomed Huang at the Great Hall of the People, stating that China remains fertile ground for foreign investment and trade, according to state news agency Xinhua.

He encouraged more U.S. companies, including Nvidia, to explore opportunities in the Chinese market.

Huang arrived in Beijing earlier Thursday at the invitation of the trade organisation.

A Nvidia spokesperson said the company regularly meets with government leaders to discuss its products and technology, but did not provide further details on Huang’s agenda.

The U.S. restrictions have created uncertainty for Chinese internet firms, which had expected deliveries of the H20 chips by the end of the year.
